The Garden Trilogy Kickstarter Preview
Hello my fellow Above Boardians!
This week I’d like to bring you something a little different. A preview of Japanese game publisher Uchibacoya’s Garden Trilogy Kickstarter. While we normally focus on reviews of currently available titles, when I was approached to consider a preview of this one I couldn’t resist. Being that Uchibacoya is based in Fukuoka, Japan and Above Board new home is in Japan as well, it felt like the ideal time to switch things up a bit!
The Garden Trilogy features three separate games, each focused on a specific biome. The first of these is a new, second edition of Uchibacoya’s original Aqua Garden along with two new titles, Sky Garden and Dino Garden. Each of these games shares the same familiar gameplay as the original Aqua Garden, but with a new twist unique to its theme. The following information is from Uchibacoya themselves and I think this sums it up best. If they look as good to you as they do to me, you can head along and secure yourself a copy by supporting their Kickstarter Campaign.
Game Overview
Title: Garden Trilogy (Aqua Garden, Sky Garden, Dino Garden)
Players: 1–4
Play Time: 60–90 minutes
Ages: 15+
Languages: English, Japanese
MSRP: $50–56

Aqua Garden (Second Edition)
Manage your aquarium by carefully choosing fish for each tank, keeping tank size and oxygen levels in mind. Guide your employee and spend your funds wisely in this beloved strategy game. The original edition raised $652,449 from 6,896 backers.
Sky Garden (New Standalone Title)
Build your own aviary with lush habitats for your feathered friends to flock together. With unique systems for egg collection and area expansion featuring trees and lakes, the game balances thoughtful strategy with engaging interaction.
Dino Garden (New Standalone Title)
Operate a dinosaur park by managing the food chain between carnivores and herbivores. The most challenging of the trilogy, Dino Garden features an innovative pick-and-deliver system and high replayability, with different dinosaurs appearing in each playthrough.
Over 500 High-Quality Wooden Components
The Garden Trilogy includes intricately crafted wooden tokens representing creatures like whale sharks, flamingos, and tyrannosaurs.
True to Uchibacoya’s style, each piece is laser-cut and UV-printed with exceptional detail, ensuring clarity and table presence. The tactile feel and weight of wood enhance immersion, offering a superior play experience compared to acrylic or generic tokens.
Special Panoramic Artwork Across the Series

When displayed side by side, the three game boxes of the trilogy form a single panoramic artwork illustrated by Tatsuki Asano, also known for his work on Sweet Lands and Ostia Pirates. Each cover is designed to naturally connect in composition and color, creating a beautiful landscape just by sitting on your shelf.
During the campaign, owners of the original Aqua Garden will be offered an upgrade set—including the new box and insert—allowing them to complete and enjoy the panoramic display.

So there you have it gamers! The Garden Trilogy is sure to fill a gaming gap in our collection so I’ll definitely be backing this one myself, and has nothing to do with the fact that my wife insisted upon it! Let me know your thoughts on the Garden Trilogy below or head on over to our Facebook Community Page and remember we are now on Instagram too. Stay tuned for our next review and as always, we appreciate you spending your time with us. Thank you.
*While Above Board was approached to preview The Garden Trilogy, we did so because we loved the look of the game and believe in supporting game companies like Uchibacoya who are working hard to bring our favourite hobby to life. Above Board received no payment or kickbacks for this preview.
